Check out my detailed reviews of hot air brushes I personally recommend. Though Ghd Glide is my number one and I don’t even consider purchasing something else to replace it, there are still lots of other great models on the market.

1. Ghd Glide Hot Brush – Professional Hot Air Brush

The ceramic technology in this advanced professional hot brush for hair styling offers extra care to its user. Apart from it, there is an ionizer that protects hair from damage.

The brush was created to style your hair as fast as possible, without the need to run to the beauty salon. This is the first professional hot air brush created by ghd. It quickly turned into a bestseller and my personal tool.

Ionizer in the brush works splendidly on any type of hair, minimizing frizz. The temperature of heating is 365F, which is considered to be optimal for hot brushes if you want to avoid damage. According to ghd, the hair is getting even healthier on the second day after the use of a brush.

I can agree with the statement, as ions plus ceramic coating really make locks shiny and healthy. There are long and short bristles on the brush for professional hairdos. I recommend you to use short bristles for a light airy effect.

9.2Expert Score

This brush also has additional features that may be useful for you. It automatically turns on sleep mode, after 60 minutes without use. The brush comes with a 9 ft cable. The ghd company offers a 2 years guarantee.

2. BaBylissPRO Nano Titanium – Best Rotating Hot Air Brush

Are you searching for a professional styling tool? With the BaByliss hair brush blow dryer, you can create your desired hairstyle pretty quickly. It’s highly convenient to use, and users claim that it’s safe, too. Nano Titanium technology makes the heating element durable and reduces heating time. This 2-inch brush is also quite large.

  • There are three temperature settings: low, high, and cool.
  • The button layout is traditional. A slider is used to switch on the device and choose the temperature, while buttons under the barrel activate rotation.
  • Its catchy blue color makes the BaByliss stand out from the crowd of similar models, and its size is optimal for carrying it in a bag. A protective cover keeps bristles safe – one more bonus for travelers!
  • Long, thin bristles grip hair tightly, so the brush should be used accurately. It can be recommended for medium-length hair, as long locks may get easily tangled.

How to use: Before using the brush, you should air-dry hair until it’s at least 80% dry. Brush your hair and apply heat protectant or argan/coconut oil. Divide your hair into sections. (You can create a bun.) Advance the brush from roots to tips slowly for at least 20-30 seconds per strand. Note that this big brush won’t make your hair too curly: rather, your hair will be naturally straight.

9.1Expert Score

If you read BaByliss hot air brush reviews, you will learn that users are mostly satisfied with it because it rotates in both directions at an optimal speed and the bristles do not bend or get damaged quickly. This instrument can last for longer than a year.

PROS:
  • Nano Titanium technology for fast heating and a healthy look;

  • There is only 110 V power, so you’ll need a converter to use it outside the U.S.

3. Moroccanoil Heated Brush – Stylish Ceramic Miracle

The brush works perfectly on frizzy, coarse, and fine hair types. You may easily fall in love with its stylish design and outstanding turquoise blue color. The ceramic material can quickly and evenly heat up the bristles to minimize the thermal exposure of your hair. The ionic cover allows you to avoid the static. The handle is heat-resistant with a digital panel on it.

There is a display on the handle that shows the current temperature of the brush. You can change it when you need it. The maximal temperature is 430F, which can be reached in 60 seconds. After one hour of work, this brush shuts off automatically, but I recommend turning it on after use.

8.8Expert Score

There is a worldwide voltage, so you can easily take the brush on every trip you go. The 9-foot cord guarantees comfort in a hotel. I also like its 1.87-pound weight, which makes it easy for me to carry this brush around in my bag and hold it while I am fixing my hair. I recommend using this brush with Moroccanoil Protect spray.

4. Calista Round Hot Brush – Premium Pick

A digital display inside the handle may save your hair from damage. If you want to adjust the temperature, just move your fingers one inch lower from the display and change it with the two buttons. There is an on/off button below them. You will quickly get used to the panel on the handle. However, from time to time, I can change the temperature just by pressing buttons automatically, so always watch your moves and try not to tighten your grip.

The teeth are made of high-quality nylon, which is a durable material that easily handles the heat from two heaters from both sides of the barrel. The barrel itself is made of ion ceramic. You can choose the 1-inch barrel for short hair and 1 ½ inch barrel for the long one. I still believe that the 1 ½ inch barrel is more universal, and you can come up with numerous styles every day.

8.6Expert Score

Ionic technology takes care of the health of your hair, removing the morning frizziness in no time. This brush offers 325-395 F temperature. Since it is only 1.75 pounds, you can hold it for an hour without feeling discomfort.

5. Ghd Rise Hot Hair Brush – Professional Care of Your Locks

Check out this stylish hairbrush. It is completely black, prolonged, and smooth. It is round, so you will love it for an extra volume of the hair you receive. Move it from the roots to the tips, so the brush can lift the locks. It is perfect for the volume you want to reach. I also recommend using it with the temperature protection spray from ghd.

The barrel is 1.25 inches, which suits both short and long hairdos perfectly. The temperature is stable, optimal 365F. The bristles are made of nylon. They lift the hair gently, avoiding damage. The swivel cord is 8.8 ft, which is usually enough to locate comfortably while fixing the hair.

8.3Expert Score

This brand is award-winning for its hairstyle products and well-known around the world. The on/off button is located on the handle. There is only one thing I am not really comfortable with, which is the lack of temperature settings. This brush weighs 1.6 pounds and can be easily transported everywhere in your bag.

11. Infiniti Pro by Conair Rotating Brush Hair Dryer — Best Rotating Hot Air Brush

Ladies with medium and long hair will find this hot air brush particularly convenient and useful. It comes with three temperature settings (low, high, and cool) and is perfect for creating voluminous hairstyles. You’ll get a magnificent glossy set without spending too much time and effort. Because this hot air brush spins in two directions, you can easily grip and release hair without using another hand. Please note that the device does not rotate in cool mode.

It comes in two colors: silver and black. The handle is quite wide in diameter, so if you have short fingers, your palm won’t grip it entirely; however, Infiniti Pro hot fusion brush reviews show that this is not a serious problem.

What users like is the protector of the 2-inch spin air brush: it protects the thin plastic teeth from bending and deforming. Therefore, if you travel and take this brush with you, don’t forget to take the protector. Increased ionization reduces frizz and ensures a silky, glossy look.

The Infiniti Pro power styler by Conair should be used on almost dry hair; before using it, you’ll need to air-dry your hair. Before styling, apply some hair protectant or oil. (Argan and coconut oil are the most optimal.)

The rotation is activated when you press the button located right under the barrel. Women with small hands may find it inconvenient but after a few uses, everything will be fine. When using the brush, you should place it closer to the roots, then span to get the lock drawn in. After that, you will release it slightly, pulling the hair.

The procedure is easy and quick. Most users manage to create a decent hairstyle and dry their hair within 10 to 15 minutes. Therefore, the Infiniti Pro is a handy spinning brush that saves time considerably.

The cord is long but comes without a hanging hook. The Infiniti Pro has only 110 V, so you must buy a power adapter if you’re going to use it outside the U.S.

PROS:
  • Rotates in both directions;
  • Comes with a barrel protector.
CONS:
  • It comes without a hanging hook;
  • The Infiniti Pro has only 110 V, so a power adapter is necessary if you’re going to use it outside the U.S.

12. Tymo Hair Straightener Brush

I’m in love with the next styler as its design is truly fantastic, and it was created by the renowned brand in the world of beauty appliances. This amazing, powerful tool will suit almost everyone; it is universal.

I like the modern-looking design and convenient handle shape of this item. It’s made of a soft-to-touch material that will make the styling process more comfortable with better grasp and control. The manufacturer has used the last anti-scald technology that will keep your fingers safe and won’t let you burn your sensitive skin while using the tool.

The main thing to mention about this styler is that it heats up in a few minutes. You don’t need to wait long, just plug the brush in, and in a moment you will be able to start your everyday styling process and achieve amazing results.

This great product will enable you to create a natural shape and perfectly straight, glossy strands. Also, it will minimize static, as well. If you need to get quick results and shiny, sleek hair, then this styler is certainly the best choice for you.

With this excellent styling tool, you can minimize the detrimental heat effect and be sure that your locks are perfectly protected, so you can easily use this item on a regular basis without any serious harm. As was mentioned above – the design is pretty modern, and thick bristles will perfectly comb your hair to achieve better and faster results.

There are various hear settings for your convenience. Pick the best temperature that matches the condition of your strands, and each option will grant you an excellent styling effect and a shiny, healthy, gorgeous look.

PROS:
  • Cool design;
  • Fast, long-lasting results;
  • Modern design;
  • Different heat settings.
CONS:
  • More pricey.

13. John Frieda Hot Air Brush

Those who need an inexpensive and simple heating brush should consider the John Freida brand.

The brand’s hot air brush doesn’t spin but it’s a piece of cake to use and the results will definitely astonish you. Its 1½-inch barrel is suitable for long and thick hair, creating maximum volume. The heating element is made of titanium and ceramic, so the device is durable and protects the user from burned scalp and hair.

Like many other models, this brush blow dryer has three main temperature settings: low, high, and cold. Women with thin hair should choose the “low” mode to avoid damaging their hair structure. The swivel cord doesn’t tangle; that’s important because when you turn the brush with your hands, the cord may easily twist.

As for button layout, it’s very convenient. However, it’s likely that you’ll accidentally move the bars when using the brush, though they’re located on the handle. An advanced ionic generator blocks static electricity and makes hair smooth, shiny, and glossy.

How-to-use tips: Before using the brush, you’ll need to wash your hair (it’s recommended that you use a volume shampoo) and air-dry it to remove at least 80% of the dampness. Spray your locks with oil or John Freida blow-dry lotion to protect hair from heating and damage. Divide hair into small sections to prevent tangling. Switch on the device and start drying your hair, pulling it slowly from the roots to the tips.

The ends will be slightly curled. The big brush won’t make your hair too curly – rather, it will become naturally wavy.

PROS:
  • The titanium and ceramic heating element is safe and long-lasting;
  • Negative ionization technology protects hair;
  • The John Freida heated hair brush is a simple but efficient device (500-watt power) that will definitely work.
CONS:
  • The spin hot air brush will be useless for short hair, as the barrel is pretty big;
  • If you are a beginner and don’t have much experience with hair styling, it will take some time to get the hang of using the device;
  • It’s not dual-voltage (110V only), so non-American users must find a power adaptor for the device to work outside the U.S.

14. Revlon Hot Air Brush for Styling & Frizz Control — Best Hot Air Brush For Short Hair

This model is the best hot air brush for travelers!

  • The kit includes a diffuser for drying and two brushes for styling. A smaller brush is perfect for women with short hair; it allows for curling hair close to the roots and the soft bristles won’t scratch the scalp.
  • The juicy red color of this hot air curling brush appeals to users, though no other color variations are available.
  • As for button layout, it is pretty convenient. The attachment release button allows the instrument to be switched on in a couple of seconds. The on/off switch features an indicator light and is unlikely to be accidentally pressed during use.

There are three heat and speed settings, so you can easily adapt the temperature to create an optimal hairstyle. The speed of rotation is optimal for creating great curls in a matter of seconds. Ionization helps reduce frizz and makes for healthy gloss and shine.

Although the manufacturers claim this brush can serve as a hair dryer, in fact, it doesn’t dry very damp hair quickly. If you read Revlon heated brush reviews, you will realize that it takes an eternity to dry your hair with this device, especially if you have long, thick hair. Therefore, ladies in a hurry should air-dry their hair until it is about 70-80% dry before switching to the Revlon round brush hair dryer.

How to use: Comb your hair properly and apply heat protectant or argan oil. Take a small handful of hair and place the hot air brush underneath it, then brush it for 10-15 seconds. If you need slight, natural curls, use a bigger brush attachment. The small attachment allows you to create fine curls that can become part of a dressy look.

PROS:
  • This heated round brush is very lightweight and compact, so it’s perfect for those who are always on the go;
  • Convenient button layout and indicator light;
  • Ionization reduces frizz and makes hair healthier;
  • It heats up easily and switches off until it cools down.
CONS:
  • If you use the device on a high-temperature setting, you should style your hair quickly, as the bristles can melt and deform after a few uses.

Judging by reviews, this is the best hot air brush for thick hair.

15. Phoebe Curling Iron Brush — Best Hot Air Curling Brush

The Phoebe Curling Iron Brush is a low-budget brush that is an excellent choice for beginners and your best option for on-the-go styling. It can be used for both straightening and curling your hair. It includes all the necessary features, from locking in your hair’s moisture to being more flexible and easy to handle.

It will suit short-haired people thanks to its 2-inch barrel, which can get closer to the roots than most of the regular curling brushes. With its flexible temperature settings, it covers almost all hair types.

There are three temperature levels from which you can choose depending on whether you want to add light touches or straighten your hair. The temperature of 265° to 320° is perfect for normal straight hair that needs a little bit of glow. It will also suit fine hair that can be easily overheated.

Phoebe brush users with fine hair praise it as one of the best tools for creating volume and shine. It has a special negative ion technology to lock in moisture and protect your hair from heat; this also acts as a smoother for frizzy hair and adds body to tired, fine hair.

If your hair is curly or wavy and you need more control over it, turn up the temperature to 320° to 395° and hold each piece for 30 seconds. With thick and coarse hair, you might need the hottest temperature of 395° to 430°. Whether you choose to straighten your hair or make it curly, the hairstyle will last all day.

There’s an LCD display that allows you to control the temperature. The dryer’s fast 30-second heat-up and temperature lock provide you with total control of your hair combing and styling, while the cool tip prevents the burning of your scalp. The plastic bristles worked fine for my hair and should be great for thicker textures, though people with fine hair may find them a bit inflexible. Still, the bristles work well to protect your scalp and they are unbreakable. This tool works best on semi-dry hair.

PROS:
  • Perfect price/quality ratio;
  • Small size;
  • Perfect for travel and will work for short hair.
CONS:
  • The plastic bristles are a bit inflexible;
  • You will need an adaptor to use it abroad.

Other Hot Air Brushes Reviewed

I’ve also made a list of other combs for specific hair types and problems that I reviewed. Keep reading in order to choose a perfect styler for yourself.

Calista Tools Pro Ionic Round Hot Brush

This hot air brush was created in collaboration with Maria McCool, a globally acknowledged hair styler with over 25 years of experience. The device serves to finish styling after an air-drying.

The barrel is 2 inches wide and features thick, solid, nylon teeth that don’t bend or melt at a high temperature. The chance of burning or scratching one’s scalp is zero, so this device can be safely used for brushing children who can’t sit still.

The Calista hot air brush does not rotate but it features a swivel cord, so you can hold it at any angle to style hair freely. It also features a hanging hook. Weighing only 1.5 pounds, it doesn’t make your hands tired; you can easily hold a cup of coffee in the other hand while using the styler.

The kit comes with a few useful bonuses: a pad brush, three crocodile clips, and a carrying case.

There are two temperature settings: low (356 °C) and high (392° C). The button for temperature control is convenient; you won’t accidentally push it while using the device. A pilot light shows the temperature. There’s also an automatic shut-off function, which is crucial for safety.

The ion ceramic barrel adds shine and makes hair look healthy while preventing overheating and damage.

How to use: Before using the brush, dry your damp hair. Apply heat protectant or oil and comb hair thoroughly. (The brush in the kit is perfect for that.) Use crocodile clips to divide hair into sections: it makes styling so much easier! When combing through hair, be careful with curling, as your strands can easily get tangled.

PROS:
  • Comes with additional devices;
  • May be used on short hair;
  • Lightweight and handy;
  • Automatic shut-off function.
CONS:
  • Doesn’t have a cold temperature setting;
  • May tangle long hair.

Remington T-Studio LUX Blow Dryer with Brush

This is one of the most well-thought-out devices on this list.

The Remington brush hair dryer rotates in two directions. It has a swivel cord which gives you total freedom of styling. Hold your hand at any convenient angle while styling – you are guaranteed brilliant results. There are two temperature and speed settings so you can adjust the brush to your hair type.

The Remington T-Studio Luxe features everything you need for convenient and efficient styling. The kit comes with two barrels: 2 inches wide for long hair and 1 inch wide for shorter hair.

The barrel is ceramic, which means it won’t burn your hair or damage its structure. What makes it unique is its micro-conditioner infusion, which means you won’t need to apply protectants.

Another key advantage of this model is its highly convenient control; there are no traditional buttons or sliders. Instead, you turn the section on the bottom of the handle to adjust the temperature, and turn the reel under the barrel to activate rotation in both directions. Some women claim that it requires practice and time to get used to such navigation.

Although it is a 750 Watt brush, it should not be used on very damp hair. The hot air blow is not strong enough, so you will have to spend a lot of time drying it. Therefore, the Remington is better for touch-ups.

PROS:
  • Hot brush reviews prove that it’s equally effective for short and long hair – a rare feature for such devices!
  • Features 2-way rotation and has several speed settings and temperature settings;
  • Micro-conditioner infusion saves time and protects your hair.
CONS:
  • The hot air blow is not strong enough; you will have to spend a lot of time drying it, so the Remington is better for touch-ups;
  • It has the same disadvantage as all the other models; it supports 110 V only, so you will need a power adaptor to use it abroad.

Helen of Troy Hair Dryer With Brush

Helen of Troy is a popular brand in the U.S. It produces low-cost, durable, and reliable devices for hair styling. If you need a compromise between price and quality, you should opt for this model.

Like other devices in the Helen of Troy brand, this dryer comes with a removable barrel. However, it has a 3/4-inch barrel with a hair dryer only. You will need to buy other barrels separately.

The brush is pretty simple; although there are no attachments or extra features, it definitely does its job.

If you have small palms, you will love this model, as it has a thin handle that can be gripped safely and conveniently, unlike the devices mentioned above. It comes with two temperature settings (low and high) for optimal styling. The vented barrel releases strong, hot air, so this is one of the best hot brushes for drying your hair.

You can use it on damp hair to get a sleek, glossy look, or on almost-dry hair to get a fluffy hairstyle. The plastic bristles are praised by some users and cursed by others; women with short hair say that it’s more convenient to operate, while long-haired users claim it tangles locks.

How to use: Use the brush independently, turning it with your hands. When you need to detangle your hair, you can activate spinning in one direction; just push the button and hold it. The button layout is typical. There’s a slider for switching on the device and changing its speeds. It is a 110 V brush, so you will need a converter to use it outside the U.S.

PROS:
  • Convenient small handle and compact size;
  • Great price/quality ratio.
CONS:
  • The hot air blow is not strong enough; you will have to spend a lot of time drying your hair, so the Remington is better for touch-ups;
  • It has the same disadvantage as all the other models: It supports 110 V only, so you will need a power adaptor to use it abroad.

All in all, Vidal Sasson can be called the best blow drying brush in its price category (up to $25). It is lightweight and suitable for traveling, though you will need a power converter to use it outside the U.S. It’s a simple device that slightly dries your hair while adding gloss and volume.

Nuts and Bolts of Hot Air Brushes

As I mentioned before, many different models are on the market today. A hot air brush has gained wild popularity because it is incredibly convenient to use. While drying your hair, you can twist the ends, straighten locks, and make your strands look shiny and healthy.

By the way, you can find an advanced rotating hot air brush that turns in both directions. This way, you can hold your hands at any convenient angle while styling your hair.

Different Types of Hot Air Brushes

The vast majority of products are blow dryers that curl hair and do not rotate. This means you have to do all the work on your own. This is not particularly convenient but unskilled users find this option safe; at least your hair won’t get accidentally tangled.

Paddle hot brushes are not very widespread because they won’t curl your hair even slightly. However, if you have straight hair and don’t want to spend much time in front of the mirror, you should opt for one.

Another interesting option is a hot air brush with styling attachments. Combo kits may feature several round brushes, attachments for pin-point styling, and concentrators.

Materials

Modern manufacturers prefer either ceramic or tourmaline antistatic teeth and heating elements. These materials conduct heat freely but don’t burn hair. In addition, negative ion emission kills bacteria and makes for glossy, healthy shine.

Some hot air brushes feature cheaper aluminum barrels that heat up quickly but may be harmful to hair!

Hot Air Brush Advantages

First and foremost, a hot air brush was created to replace both blow dryers and wooden hair brushes. Now, instead of holding the devices in both hands, a woman can use a lightweight device that dries and curls (or straightens) hair simultaneously.

As a result, you get perfect shiny hair without much effort. If you read heated brushes reviews and watch tutorials, you will realize that hot air brushes allow for the creation of more complicated hairstyles, so they are convenient for more than daily use.

Most often, static and rotating brushes feature two heat settings and one cool setting. This is more than enough to dry hair quickly and achieve the desired styling results. The choice of a hot brush styler depends on what you want to do with your hair. Long-haired women who love curly locks and slightly turned ends should choose models with big, round, rotating brushes.

If you need perfectly straight hair, a flat pad may be a more appropriate solution. Unfortunately, a round brush blow dryer is inconvenient for women with short hair. However, smaller round brushes can dry and style hair closer to the roots.

Popular Tips and Questions About Hot Air Brushes

What Materials are Heated Brushes Made of?

The vast majority of modern heated curling brushes have ceramic or tourmaline barrels. This is the safest option because such materials heat up quickly but do not damage the surface and structure of the hair.

As a result, you’ll get a sleeker, more natural look without dried split ends. Iron and aluminum barrels appear to be a bit outdated and more harmful to natural hair.

Most straightening brushes have a plastic handle but they still differ; some don’t overheat and burn hands, while low-quality plastic can get too hot or even melt. Read reviews thoroughly before making your final decision.

Heated brushes usually feature thin plastic or nylon bristles. Pay attention to their length; short bristles bend and deform less but are more suitable for short and thin hair. Long bristles allow for the styling of long, thick hair, but you will need a plastic cover to protect them, especially if you take the brush with you when you travel.

Can I Use My Hot Air Brush Outside the U.S.?

Many brushes produced for American audiences (including some of the above-mentioned ones) work with 110 V only. In other countries, you will need a 240 V device. In addition, the form of a plug can differ from region to region. Therefore, if you want to buy a brush for traveling, make sure it’s dual-voltage (e.g., it can automatically adjust its voltage). Otherwise, you’ll need a power adaptor.

Do not plug 110 V devices into 240 V electricity points, as this may be dangerous!

What’s the Difference Between a Typical Hairdryer and a Hot Air Brush?

Regular blow dryers can be used for blowing wet hair but you’ll need to hold the dryer in one hand and hold a brush in the other. It’s inconvenient, and the device can be heavy, making arms tired. A heated brush dries hair while combing it. However, most devices have a pretty weak air flow, so they are optimal for touch-ups and 80-90% dry hair.

Heated brushes are more suitable for thick, medium-length hair. If your hair is short, it cannot grasp the lock near the roots. Also, long hair tends to tangle; many unskilled users leave negative spin air brush reviews with photos of their entrapped locks, which they had to cut out.

Those with thin hair should choose a brush carefully because fine bristles can tangle and damage the hair. Models with thick plastic teeth instead of bristles can be more optimal.

No matter what type of hair you have, it’s recommended that you apply a heat protectant or special oil to prevent burning, dryness, and destruction of the hair structure. You can save time by buying a micro-conditioning brush.

What is Ionization and Why is it Useful?

You might have noticed that numerous heated brushes come with a negative ionization feature. This means that the device emits more negative ions, which reduce frizz, kill bacteria, and make hair shine. With such a feature, you can get a sleek and smooth look without damaging your hair.

Can I use a Hot Air Brush on Short Hair?

Although some models can be used for drying and straightening shoulder-length and shorter hair, most are not suitable for that.

Are hot air brushes bad for your hair?

Of course, any styling tool may damage your hair if not applied properly. But if you’re using a hair dryer brush (or any other straightening tool) according to the instructions, there’s no need to worry. Be sure that you select the right temperature for your hair type and always use some kind of a heat protectant before styling (a spray, oil, etc.).

Also, try not to over-use the brush. Otherwise, you may get split ends, burned or dull hair. I don’t think that using a hot air brush every day is a good idea, but you definitely can style your locks with it 2-3 times a week.

Otherwise, you may get split ends, burned or dull hair. I don’t think that using a hot air brush every day is a good idea, but you definitely can style your locks with it 2-3 times a week.

Hot air brushes are considered to be safer than curling tongs because they don’t hold the hair between heated plates but style it by blowing hot air. Also, the surface of such brush is usually coated in ceramic, and this material not only is safe for hair but also make it smooth and silky. To achieve a better look, I recommend you to choose a good moisturizing shampoo and use argan oil or hair wax after styling.

Some new technologies that hot air brushes use could make your hair healthier as well. For example, an ionizing function is a great achievement of modern manufacturers. Ionic brushes lock in moisture so hair doesn’t get dehydrated after styling. Such an appliance gives you silky and smooth hair that looks like you want it to be.

Girls with fine, brittle or colored hair can also use a hot air brush without worrying about damaging their locks. So, as long as you’re using it properly, there is no risk of damaging your hair.

Which Barrel Size is Better?

Two-inch barrels are better for longer hair, as they allow for slightly curled tips and a natural look. 1- and 1.5-inch barrels are recommended for women with medium-length hair; they usually straighten hair.

Now you know which heated hair brushes are worth your attention and money. When selecting a suitable model, take into account your hair length and thickness, as well as safety and convenience of use.

  1. I have short fine hair that has been color treated. Brown with light highlights. What would be the best curling brush for me. I have a Helen of Troy curling brush I think it is 1″ is this good for my hair.

    • Hello! Helen of Troy is definitely good, but there are two other hot air brushes, I advise you to consider.

      The first one is Revlon Hot Air Brush For Styling & Frizz Control.
      The kit includes two brushes for styling, and a smaller one will be perfect for your short hair. The brush helps curling hair close to the roots, and soft bristles will not scratch the scalp. There are three heat and speed settings, so you can quickly adapt the temperature to your thin hair type. Its ionization function helps to reduce frizz and makes up for healthy gloss and shine.

      The second one is Remington T-Studio LUX Blow Dryer with Brush.
      There are two temperature and speed settings so that you can adjust the brush to your hair type. I advise you to choose the lower one, as you have thin hair. The 1-inch wide barrel that comes with the kit is good for short hair. The barrel is ceramic, so it does not damage and burn hair structure. And the sweet bonus of this brush is that you don’t need to apply protectants because it has a unique micro-conditioner infusion.

      Hope this information is helpful to you 🙂

  2. is a 1″ curling brush good for fine short color treated hair

  3. Hi Monica
    Thanks for your article. I have thick short hair. Most of the bristles of the hot brushes seem too soft to go through my hair. What size brush and type of bristle do you recommend e.g. nylon or plastic, or is there something else available. I am looking for a rotating brush to ease the styling process!!

    thanks for your advice.
    Rita

    • Hi Rita!
      Thanks for your question.

      I think Vidal Sasson Heated Brush Styler will be perfect for you.
      Its 1-inch barrel helps too get closer to roots, unlike many other traditional models, so it fits short hair well. Moreover, this device is great for thick and curly hair, because it allows making it straight and smooth at the high-temperature setting.

    Hi, I have long, fine hair that’s pretty flat and straight. Looking to add some volume (and maybe a bit of curl). Which brand would you recommend?

    • Hi! My favorite is Revlon Hot Air Brush. Its barrel allows getting maximum volume for your hair. And the speed of rotation is optimal for creating great curls in a matter of a few seconds. I highly recommend this brush.

  5. Hello . I am Nasrallah and I have invented a kind of new hair brush and I intend to sell it. please guide me

  6. Hi Monica! Thanks so much for your very concise reviews.
    I have long chemically straightened Asian hair that is fairly flat, thin, and gets mildly frizzy. I’m looking to get more volume, shine, and have an option to get some curls or go straight. Which brand would you recommend? Thanks for your help!

    • Hi Dianne! Thank you for your comment.
      Vidal Sasson Heated Brush Styler is specially designed to style thin and weakened hair like yours.
      I suggest you read more about this tool.

  7. Hi Monica,

  8. Hello. Any advice for a good hot air brush to tame mid-length curly and frizzy hair? Thank you!

  9. Hi Monica!

    I have long, beach wavy hair. It’s pretty manageable and I don’t have many issues outside of the normal realm of hair problems. I’m just looking for a good quality hot air brush that will allow me to look like i just walked out of the salon! I’m tired of using my hair straightener and tired of the flat , straw/hay looking hair.

    What would be your top 2 picks from this article? Thank you so much!

    Christine

    • Hi Christine!
      I feel you will find Infiniti Pro by Conair and John Frieda Hair Dryer Brushes particularly convenient and useful.
      These brushes are suitable for such hair as yours.

  10. Check your links – clicked to find pricing and found myself looking at a different product, NOY the one I was reading about.

  11. Hi Monica,
    Thank you so much for your article!
    I already use the Revlon rotating hot air brush in my thick, straight yet frizzy, colour treated hair.
    No matter how long I use it my hair is still frizzy esp at the ends, and I have to use a straightener (iron) to sleek it out.
    Is there a hotter rotating brush out there? Something to tame the frizz like a professional blow drier would!
    Thank you!

  12. Hello Monica,
    I have a short bob with blonde highlights, thin, oily and no volume hair. I recently move to Finland and the water in here is different (no hard water) and makes my hair frizzy. I’m desperate, I never had that problem and I don’t know how to fix this. Could you please recommend some styling products and especially the best hot air brush for me? I m struggling to find the right brush, because I have shorter hair and I also want good heat protection.
    Your answer means a lot to me. Thank you and have a great New Year!

    • Hi Paula,

      The daily care of weak and greasy hair with low volume is pretty complicated. It requires the usage of special instruments, which are difficult to find on your own. I would recommend you Infiniti Pro by Conair that has a rotating head for making up a significant hair volume. One more instrument – Calista Heat Curling Brush Plus. The thermal brush Styler can be another helping tool for creating a neat and good-looking hairstyle in a couple of minutes. Once you try BaBylissPRO Nano Titanum instrument, giving your hair a fantastic volume in almost no time, you will forget about your problem forever.

    Hi Monica
    I am so glad I found this site.
    I have very short, about 3″, hair and I am looking for a brush that will dry my hair while brushing.
    I only have one arm so this would be like magic.

    Regards
    Morag.

    • Hi,

      Your case is really unusual. But fortunately, there are various products, like Infiniti Pro by Conair, that has mechanically spinning brush, and will be a good fit for you. One more alternative – Calista Heat Curling Brush Plus. This is a perfect tool because of the thermosetting brush for making a beautiful hairstyle on short wavy hair. You may also try Remington T-Studio LUX with a rotating head that guarantees a fantastic result, or Vidal Sasson as an excellent helping device in everyday care.

      Hope this helps!

    I have very fine straight color treated hair and have difficulty getting volume although my hair is a chin length bob. What hot air brush do you recommend for me. I is the John Frieda brush–is there another that would do better for volume

    • Creating a beautiful hairstyle when you have thin straight hair on your own is quite difficult. It is worth paying attention to the Infiniti Pro by Conair with a comfortable rotating brush or practical brush for fast drying of John Freed Revlon. For people with thin hair, there is a perfect tool like Remington T-Studio LUX comb with Helen Troy. A hairdryer with a Vidal Sasson comb or a heated Styler comb will help you to make of a beautiful hairstyle quickly. The technique guarantees comfortable, easy care for every hair type. It is worth paying attention to Calista Heat Curling Brush Plus which can create the perfect hairstyle from wavy hair in a few minutes.

  15. Hi Monica, I have EXTREMELY thin, fine, straight shoulder length hair and am looking for a rotating hot air brush that would give me volume and shine. Any suggestions?

    • Hi Cori,

      Various product lines are intended to help with thin and long hair. One of the most popular among them – Infiniti Pro by Conair. This tool has a rotating head and powerful blow of hot air. Another reliable and practical device is a special brush for hair drying by John Freed’s Revlon. For wavy hair, it would be good to use a Calista Heat Curling Brush Plus. Mechanical dryers with a strong blow of hot air are Remington T-Studio LUX and a brush presented from Helen Troy. And a Vidal Sasson with a comfy brush will guarantee to make a beautiful hairstyle in no time without problems.

  16. Hi Monica,
    I have long, very curly (spiral curls) on the thin-side hair. My hair gets very frizzy when left curly. I am a novice when it comes to blow drying my own hair straight because it has always been an intimidating job but I would love to attempt it with a 2-in -1 brush. Which brush do you feel would be the right choice for me?
    Thanks!

    • Hi Ally!
      Thank you for the question.

      I’d recommend Vidal Sasson Heated Brush Styler. It is not as expensive as more professional 2-in-1 brushes and seems like a great dryer to start with if you doubt your hairstyling abilities. It has all the basic features of a professional brush dryer, and you end up with more smooth and healthy-looking hair.

      With this styler, you can make your hair straight at a high-temperature setting. Just don’t forget to use some protective oils before drying: argan and coconut will do fine. After applying the oils let your hair dry on its own or fasten the process with a hair dryer of your choice. Your goal here is to make your hair no less than 80 % dry, and only after that, you can proceed with the 2-in-1 brush. Divide your hair into sections while brushing for the long-lasting result.

      Vidal Sasson Heated Brush Styler comes in three colors to individualize your drying sessions and make them more fun. The brush is of a small diameter so you may have your hair tangled at first, but it takes just a little bit of practice to get used to this device. The handle of compact size makes the usage convenient even for users with small palms. If you face problems with this kind of equipment, ask me anything! I will be glad to help you handle your hair easy!

  17. Hi Monica! I am really glad I found this post. I have shoulder length (asymetrical bob), blonde (highlighted from dirty blonde) fine and thin hair. My hair has started breaking from hard water / cold weather reacently and I wanted to try a hair dryer that will do less damage than a regular brush / hair dryer has been doing. I was looking at the revlon one step voluminzing dryer but now I am doubting my choice (especially since reviews says it burns up rather fast). What would you reccomend? Thank you!!

    • Hi Sarah!
      Thank you for your question.

      You seem like a long-time user of hair tools so I’d recommend you BaByliss products from professional Titanium series. They use Nano Titanium technology that protects the heating element from overheat while reducing heating time. BaBylissPRO Nano Titanium Rotating Brush Hair Dryer may be a little bit difficult to grasp at the beginning, but you will love it after a couple of uses. There are three temperature settings, so you can dry your hair on any temperature that suits you, it will still look healthy and strong. The brush won’t make your medium length hair too curly, but will definitely add to the volume.

      There’s also BaByliss PRO Nano Titanium Dryer if your primary goal is to bring you damaged hair back to life. This dryer is the best option for fine hair because of its careful drying and six temperature settings. Add ionization for a smooth look and a strong feel and volume boosting potential, and you get the perfect combination for your needs.

      Another way of treating your hair is by using ceramic-based products like Remington T-Studio LUX Dryer with Brush. It has a special infusion in its core that provides the highest level of protection while drying. With this device, you can get by without such additional products like oils and heat-protective sprays.

  18. Hi Monica, i am over 65, I have what they call “a long Bob” and also color treat and high lites. . Especially when traveling, I spend hours with a curling iron! My hair gets dry and the hi lights look frizzy from daily curl irons . Can you reccomend a good hot air product to lift and bend mybhair, so I can avoid the curl iron. I just can’t wear a completely straight Hair style…I like a nice lift, with gentle curls bent under. Thank you……….

  19. My hair is very thick and medium length. It’s not curly, but not straight either. It’s very difficult to get smooth end and as within an hour my style is ruined with frizz.. I’ve used numerous oils, conditioners and products and nothing maintains the smoothness. Which dryer would you recommend? Do you have any suggestions for products that are good for dry hair, frizz and that will hold my style? My hair is color treated, but my hairdresser said it’s just dry, not damaged. Thank you

  20. Hi Monica, i ll appreciate your advice about which tool is the best for my hair. I have very long and thick semi curly hair that absorbs a lot of water and i want to wear my hair straight without too much effort and damage. Give me options please. Thank you in advance Julie

    • Hi Julie,

      Thank you for reading my blog, I appreciate it greatly.

      In your case, I would opt for Xtava: Best Hair Straightener for Thick Long Hair. It was especially designed for thick long hair and it warms up really quickly. It will make your hair soft and straight without damaging or drying it out. Its plate is unusually wide. They made this trick up to reduce your straightening time to 5-7 minutes. Oh, and chances are high that if you use it today and sleep on it at night, your hair will still look great tomorrow. Make sure you use your straightener when your hair is completely dry. And don’t forget about the key secret for styling long thick hair: thicker hair, hotter straightener.

      Also, for your long and thick hair I recommend using John Frieda Hair Dryer Brush. It won’t damage your hair. I’ve heard women say that after using this hot air brush their hair looked better than when they had gotten it done at the hair salon.

      Also, if I were you, I would consider Suave Professionals Anti Frizz Cream to support your specific hair needs and as an addition to your hair straightening ritual. This cream will smooth your hair beautifully without heaving it down. You can use it as a finishing touch of your hair styling routine.

      Hope this helps. Long thick hair is always beautiful, so take a good care of this gem of yours!

      Monica

  21. John frieda hot air brush is my preference!

  22. Hi Monica! This is a very helpful blog! Thank you for all the great tips. I have fine mid-length color treated (blonde) hair. My main goal is to create root volume. Which device would work best for me? Per reviews, all devices seem to be great. Could you please help me make the decision? Thank you!!

  23. Hi Monica,
    Just stumbled onto your site and -boy, there’s a wealth of info here on my topic of interest. Thank you. I’d welcome your feedback however, since I don’t see a response to my situation.

    I have chin length, extremely fine, frizzy hair that is keratin treated for smoothing. I also generally use a paddle brush to dry my hair and when I need a proper blowout I use my Sultra Vixen hot air brush to give me the volume and neatness I need. I’ll be traveling overseas again soon and while I have a babyliss dual voltage air dryer, I’d really like a dual voltage hot air brush like the sultra vixen. The ones in the market are either ceramic or other curlers with rubberized tips and don’t blow hot air like the babyliss pro 120 Volt version. Do you know of any product that does what I’m looking for and can you recommend one please? To recap, I’m looking for a dual voltage, hot air brush that can give me volume at the roots. I’ve looked at all online stores, esp Amazon, and cannot find one.
    Many thanks in advance!
    KK

  24. The main reason why I love my heated hair brush is that I don’t need to visit a hair salon each morning. All I need is just a quick shower and then 5-10 minutes with the brush in front of the mirror. And that’s all! I used to have mostly BaByliss tools, but when it comes to spinbrush hair dryer Conair is my favorite.

  25. Hello, Monica. Thanks for mentioning about 110 V power adapter for the Infiniti Pro brush. I’m planning to buy a curler hair brush like this, I don’t really need a hanging hook because it’s going to be my travel brush. I travel a lot, especially in Europe and North America, and this review was very useful for me. Thanks.

  26. Hi,
    I frequently travel abroad so could you name the hot air brushes that can be used in Europe without an adapter?

    thanks in advance,
    Noel.

  27. I have thick, shoulder length hair that I wear in a curled under bob…I want volume and more of a curl to keep the “set” in…Right now, I have a brush blow dryer that smoothes my hair and gives it a little under curl on the ends but overall my hair turns out too straight…I am thinking, I might need something that has a smaller brush attachment?…Would this give me what I want in a brush dryer (more of a curl and volume}?…What brush dryer would you suggest for me?

  28. Wow! Such an interesting review you made here, Monica, thank you! I never noticed a single hot air brush at my local stores, but maybe it’s just my weak sight, haha. I probably would get one for myself. I suppose Phoebe Curling Iron Brush will be the best choice for the first try if I’ve got mid-length fine hair.

  29. Hello. As a lot of people know, it’s difficult to make a fine frizzy hair look right, especially after visiting bathroom or after a rain. The BaBylissPRO Rotating Brush is the best helper for me in this kind of situations as its hot air does no damage to my hair, its bristles feel comfortable to me and it is a pretty reliable instrument (serves me for more then a year already).

  30. Yes, I totally like the whole idea of blow stylers and totally agree that your hair is better when it’s dried with a hot air brush. I don’t use typical hair dryer since I’ve tried one of these cool tools. My first styling brush was Phoebe Curling Iron Brush and everything was good about it, but then there was BaBylissPRO with its blowing, rotating brush, and Nano Titanium technology with which I was fascinated and it was the best I tried for now. You will understand once you try it yourself.

  31. Hi, I’ve got straight fine hair and making it look impressive was a difficult task till I opened hot air styler for myself. There was only one thing that bothered me, I used to think it was only my problem but I’m glad to see that this is the common problem: blow is not strong in any of brush dryer. And I’m glad to see my brush in “top best” (I own Remington T-Studio LUX ).

  32. Hello, Monica. You mentioned Infiniti Pro by Conair in your review and I agree that it’s the best rotating brush. Its air blow isn’t too strong but enough to do its work, as it’s for styling, not for drying. It can spin in both directions which is additional useful function. Also, I like its design and color, holding it in hand is pleasant, and a barrel protector is a simple, still smart decision.

  33. When I first got Revlon Hot Air Brush Kit that Monica already mentioned in this post, I had a lot of fun exploring its features and functions. First of all, I liked the design from the first sight, its changeable brush attachments gived funny feeling because of flexible bristles. Secondly, when you used to it, its real pleasure to use it – very easy and very lightweighted.

  34. Hi, Monica! As I know, John Frieda hair hot air brush is a good decision if you want to tame your naughty curly hair. I have that pretty instrument, it was one of my birthday wishes, and I was totally happy to get this brush. In the morning it’s very useful when you need to get ready fast and to have the best look. Frizzy and dull at the start, my hair become fresh, shiny and volumized.

  35. Hello, Monica. I liked your review a lot but now I can’t decide which is the best hot air brush for my short hair. Should I take one with hard bristles or with softer ones? If I want to use it with hair spray, what should I account for, and will it damage the brush or my hair? Or maybe I should take the heat hair brush? My hair is hard to style so I need the best decision for it.

  36. The first time I heard about hot air stylers was in spring 2018 and I had no trust in these, but once my sister gifted one to me in summer. Despite the funny appearance, Helen of Troy hair dryer brush is rather cleverly made tool. It looks like it was made for kids, but I had a glimpse at few reviews where at the one hand it was described as very efficient and reliable, durable and longlasting product, and on the other hand it appeared like a quirky appliance that tangles hair (especially long) and don’t turn on for some time after a long usage (later figured out that it’s protective measures to save the generator from overheating). So what can I say now, after I brushed my hair for some time with this? Its hard plastic bristles didn’t tangle my hair and went smoothly, even smoother than any other metallic or some nylon ones, it can be cleaned quick and easy since its brush element can be disassembled. Its air blow isn’t enough for drying your hair but it’s good for refreshing your look (especially for short hair), though I use it for curling usually. Oh, and it is really difficult to get burned with this wondrous brush which is the best in my opinion.

  37. Hi, Monica. I wish I found you earlier – therefore I could’ve been able to avoid burning my hot air hair brush that even wasn’t mine. That was on my last vacation to Europe and knowing that sockets there are different in most european countries from US ones, I took an adapter with me. Shame on me, I’ve missed the fact that voltage differs too.
    Best wishes to other travelers and don’t forget about voltage converter if you taking any tech with A-type plug-in with you. And don’t neglect to do some deeper research, it would be best for you and may prepare you to surprises.

    You should take part in a contest for one of the best websites on the internet.
    I most certainly will recommend this website!

  40. Hi Monica,
    Thank you for this helpful blog. I have a daughter ,who has curly and frizzy hair. This blog will surely help me to decide which brush i will choose. I really liked comparison box with various brushes .

  41. I had a Revlon Hot Air Brush Kit but it got fried in Prague as I didn’t know I needed a converter to convert voltage from U.S. to European. I bought another Revlon Hot Air Brush as I really love it and am now in search of a converter that will work with this tool which uses ionic technology. Most converters do not support ionic technology. Any suggestion/recommendation? Thanks.

  43. Hey Monica. Let me just say I love your blog so much. I’ve been reading it for a few years already, and you’ve helped me pick some of the best hair styling tools I’ve ever had. The Revlon hot air brush from this post is among them. Thank you so much for introducing me to it. I have really thick hair. This honey is the only tool capable of getting hot and blowing strong enough to do the job perfectly well. Furthermore, it’s really affordable – such a pleasant bonus! And it’s perfect for traveling. Best money I’ve ever spent in a long, long time!

First of all, I liked the design from the first sight, its changeable brush attachments gived funny feeling because of flexible bristles. Secondly, when you used to it, its real pleasure to use it – very easy and very lightweighted.

  45. Hey there. Thanks for this awesome post. To be honest, I’ve read tons of hot air brush reviews before I purchased my BaBylissPRO Nano Titanium tool… It’s not that I don’t trust you 😀 It’s just that I’m overly cautious when it comes to following other people’s advice on the internet As for the BaBylissPRO hot brush, it’s totally life-changing. It’s the best styling tool that turns my extremely curly, unruly, and frizzy hair into a shiny and sleek look. As much as I adore and respect my hair stylist, with the BaBylissPRO hot brush, my strands look even better than when she styles them. In short, this brush is definitely a keeper!

  46. hi monica… thanks for your post, its really helpful… just a quick question before i make up my mind on getting myself a hot air brush… out of the products youve listed, which is the best hot air brush for thick hair? i see youve mentioned the revlon and john freida heated hairbrush as great products for thick hair… but which one is the absolute best in your personal view?.

    • Hi Mimi. Thank you for your question, I greatly appreciate it. Indeed, Revlon and John Feida are both great for thick hair. I’ve had the chance to test-drive both these hot air brushes. If I were you, I’d go with Revlon. The tool is perfect for thick hair. It works great on my daughter’s hair which is very thick and curly. It functions excellent as a straightener. It styles thick hair and defrizzes it with ease.

    Hey Monica. My name is Alison. I have short hair but it’s thin and has long layers. One of my colleagues says that BaByliss is the best hot air brush for short hair. I’ve read a lot of excellent reviews about it online, yet still kinda on the fence about purchasing it. The thing is expensive! Do you think it’s going to work on my short hair?

    • Hi Alison. Thank you for your feedback. I’ve been asked this question before, and I can say for sure that the BaByliss hot air brush is perfect for short hair. Believe me, you will be delighted with this tool. It may be pricey, true. But you will love freshening up your short hair with this baby on a daily basis. It does a great job styling your hair without damaging the heck out of it.

  49. yep. I agree with some of the previous comments. revlon is the best hot air brush out there. (well, at least to me it is). a colleague recommended it to me after I gushed about her amazingly gorgeous sleek hair. I love how fast this hot air brush is, it definitely saves me lots of time in the morning. I get tons of compliments about my hair every day, and I tell everyone about this awesome hot air brush all the time. haven’t used a regular hair dryer since I bought my revlon tool. definitely a game changer.

  50. Thanks for the reviews, I purchased ghd Glide Hot Brush, Professional Hot Brush! This is a great brush. I use it for my own hair and for my clients.
